Loch Cluannie Road Trip

Today was a recce for a trip I intended doing when me and Sal come up to the Highlands for our September holiday. We will be staying at Balmacara for a week, just a few miles from The Kyle of Localsh which is just down the road.

I intend taking her over The Bealach Ratagain and then on to Glenelg and Arisdale which overlooks Knoydart and Loch Hourn. The bit I wanted to check out was the drive over The Bealach Ratagain so this day out seemed a good excuse to do that and to visit Glen Shiel and Loch Cluanie again as I haven't been to this area for a number of years. I parked up in the viewpoint car park at the top of the bealach and sat at a picnic table to eat the lunch I'd bought in Fort William. The view was absolutely stunning looking towards The Five Sisters Of Kintail.

It was a long day, especially the drive back to Fort William. Thankfully the new cafe was open at The Cluanie Inn so I made a stop off there for a final coffee and a piece of cake. I must admit, I was on auto pilot a bit when I pulled into the carpark of the apartment I was staying in.

A Day Of Contrasting Weather

Morning - a wet and grim Glen Nevis. Some might say the best conditions for photography and I would tend to agree. It is certainly better than clear blue skies.

Afternoon - Blue skies and fluffy white clouds on The Road To The Isles and The Arisaig Coastline.

They do say that if you are in Scotland and don't like the weather, then just hang around a few minutes and it will completely change. Today I felt as though I had had the best of both worlds!

Balmacara and Skye

WE had a mixed week of weather but on the whole we managed to stay dry. The only wet day was our second day when Sal stayed in the cottage ...
