Highland Escape

I have titled this blog Highland Escape and an escape it really was. I was part way through having tests on my Prostate which had become enlarged and was causing me the usual problems. My blood test for Prostate cancer came back clear but after having a chat with the specialist I decided to have frurther tests ie a biopsy, bone scann and an MRI scan as there was obviously some unusual growth down there.. I had a window of a week before they all started so I opted to go away and seek a bit of solice in the places I loved.

The trip up had its good and bad moments due to the changable weather but that is what you have to expect, especially if you visit in March. The best weather I got for photography coincided with me approaching and going through Glen Coe, so I was lucky in that respect.

I stayed overnight in my caravan in The Lakes and set off early doors for The Highlands. My stay for the next four nights was to be at The Moorings Hotel, situated by the side of The Caledonian Canal at Banavie which is a few miles out of Fort William. I had stayed there before and just loved its situation and friendliness.

I didn't really do anything new on my visit; my first day was spent travelling The Road To The Isles to Mallaig and also visiting the fabulous sands in that area and then the next day was to be a trip to The Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The third day was to be a local day; a morning trip up to Loch Arkaig and the afternoon spent down Glen Nevis. Detailed descriptions of all these days will be seperately blogged.

After having settled in, I went for an evening drive up to The Glenfinnan Viaduct with the hope of getting a sunset. Unfortunately the cloud and showers came in from the west and the best I got was a couple of rainbow shots.

I returned to the hotel, had a bite to eat and ended the day with a couple of beers.

Balmacara and Skye

WE had a mixed week of weather but on the whole we managed to stay dry. The only wet day was our second day when Sal stayed in the cottage ...
