Harvest Time in South Yorkshire

July wasn't a very easy month for me and close friends. Sal's mum was poorly, she took a fall whilst in Coniston and broke a bone in the top of her arm which revealed other complications. Her dad has a condition which isn't very easy to deal with as well so consequently I have spent a fair bit of time in South Yorkshire offering help and support. Just having a car to get people about takes a lot of pressure off the situation as visits to doctors and hospitals are never an easy and simple thing and all take time. So just simply washing the pots or hanging out and bringing in the washing have been my major tasks, plus keeping a smile on my face and keeping everyone's spirits up have also been high on my list.

Me and Sal have managed to have a few trips out to our favourite jaunts but by and large she has dedicated her time to helping her parents do things which we normally take for granted. Its amazing what you CAN'T do just by partially losing the use of one arm. Showering, dressing, washing, cleaning, cooking, bill paying, giving medication and making a simple brew are all nigh on impossible without use of both arms. Sal has done a sterling job and I have been immensely proud of what she has done. There has been the occasional flare up and the air has frequently turned blue but that is to be expected in the Thomas household hehe.

I took these photos early one morning whilst Sal prepared her folk's breakfasts. They are all taken within a few miles of Kiveton Park, mainly in the villages of Thorpe Salvin and Harthill. There are some great "big" skies in that area as these photos show and also crop fields aplenty.

Now that things are quietening down, I am hoping to get a bit more time in The Lakes and maybe trips up to The Highlands and The Northumberland Coast.

Balmacara and Skye

WE had a mixed week of weather but on the whole we managed to stay dry. The only wet day was our second day when Sal stayed in the cottage ...
